ABSTRACT
The article argues that the Berlin Wall is a manifestation of an enduring humiliation to the Germans and the Communists. It compares the difficulties and challenges being faced by East and West Germans. It describes how the wall curtails the freedom of East Germans. It examines the reluctance of the Germans to talk about nationalism in politics because it reminds them of the crimes committed by Nazi Germany. It also cites several reasons for the reluctance or refusal of East Germans to leave East Germany.
