ABSTRACT
The article presents an outlook on the security of South East Asia for the 2010s. Some of the challenges that the region will face include Islamist militancy, piracy, weak borders and rising competition between China and the U.S. for influence in the regions. It outlines the reasons for South East Asia to remain one of the world's most important regions such as population size and rapidly expanding economies. It discusses the poor governance and political instability in most South East Asian states such as Thailand and the Philippines.
