ABSTRACT
The article discusses the whole-class choral reading (WCCR) teaching method, which has been successfully used in urban schools with low-income African American students. WCCR requires that all students and the teacher read aloud from the same text, which allows the teacher to monitor correct pronunciation and can give the students feedback about the reading and anything they may not have understood. It is noted that with WCCR, teachers have a variety of texts that they can choose to read with their students.
