ABSTRACT
A reprint of the article "Tax Cuts-Jobless Pay Deal: Obama Punts on Third Down," by Roger Bybee, which appeared in the periodical "In These Times," is presented. The progressives criticized the deal as they say it shifted the attention to deficit reduction from job creation. Republicans demanded that the cost of the extended unemployment compensation be covered by offsetting domestic spending cuts. The author calls on Democrats to oppose the deal if they want to win in the 2012 elections.
