ABSTRACT
We would like to point out a few issues of the current interest in the field of initial and in-service training of French language teachers. We would also try to propose some activities which could promote their education concerning the process of teaching and learning the French culture, such as: preparing and organizing students' exchanges and residencies abroad, proposing different optional courses and modules during the studies, use of the new technologies for educational purposes, etc. Since a foreign language teacher is a mediator between the two languages and cultures, he should not only get some knowledge about these particular areas, but also different competences which will help him achieve better results. It is necessary to understand the need of the professionalization of the teacher's work and recognize a value of his mission. Every teacher should pass the way from the initial to the life long learning.
