ABSTRACT
The article explores the presidency of the Czech Republic in the European Union (EU) Council. It examines the main priorities of its programme including energy safety, the economy, and the foreign relations of the EU. It cites the influence of the confidence crisis in the banking sector and the recession of the European economy on the Czech Presidency. It further notes the arrival of the U.S. administration and its negotiations on government incentives to start up the world economy.
