Brands on social networks need to understand why people are there

The author asserts the need for brands that are on social media websites to understand why people are using social networks in order to communicate with them more effectively. She says that a unique opportunity is presented for marketers as the use of social media becomes mainstream. She adds that it is not surprising that many people are using social media to share information as well as connect with friends and families. She also mentions that it is a challenge for the industry to offer non-intrusive but entertaining and relevant advertising to people.
