ABSTRACT
The article examines a study of the historic statement "The Filioque: A Church Dividing Issue?" found in bilateral theological dialogues. For Christians, the unshakeable foundation of all religious thought, piety, all spiritual life and experience is the doctrine of the Trinity. Major studies from the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches that put emphasis on the reality and significance of the Holy Trinity are presented. The significance of discussions on the filioque held in 1978-1980 is explained.
