ABSTRACT
The author focuses on a program that claims to supply renewable energy to her home if she pays a little extra. The plan involves the power company Pacific Power, which runs a wind farm on the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. The author learned that her money is actually used to subsidize the market for renewable energy, and that wind-mill power is not directly supplied. She says the extra money could be better used on household energy efficiency upgrades.
