ABSTRACT
The article reports that some health providers are questioning the extension of the Recovery Audit Contractor program which allow third-party auditors hired by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to keep 9% to 12.5% of payments they identify as improper and collect from providers. The hospital industry thinks that the extension would be redundant, particularly with Medicaid. The possible extension follows the move of the Obama administration to discover improper CMS payments.
