ABSTRACT
This study develops an historiographical approach to the period commonly known as the Chilenization of northern Chile covering the years between 1880-1929. It examines the relationship of the social organization of Andean society with the Chilean State disciplining of the socio-cultural space including the current rural sector in the province of Arica with its low valleys, foothills and Altiplano sector. The study is a historiographical analysis of regional and national interest, using historical sources from local archives that deal with the historical characterization of the political, economic, social and cultural structures in this area.
