ABSTRACT
The article discusses the report "The Experiences of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Middle School Students" from the New York City-based Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network. The report used a survey of over 6,000 students, of which 629 middle school students responded that they experienced frequent verbal harassment and occasional physical assault from their peers. The majority of middle school respondents had experienced verbal harassment because of their sexual orientation.
