ABSTRACT
The article examines the repatriation of Afghan refugees. It is noted that a large number of refugees have returned to Afghanistan since 2002 and that three million Afghans remain in exile. The central focus of the article is an investigation of conditions that repatriated Afghans can expect to encounter on their return to their country. A number of factors are discussed including political corruption, the scarcity of housing, conflicts over the ownership of land and the possibility that returning refugees will become internally displaced persons.
