ABSTRACT
The article discusses how real estate investment trusts (REITs) took advantage of bargain prices on distressed commercial properties and mortgages. Previously, financially strong REITs offered attractive yields but they now raise funds for acquisitions of troubled properties with low prices. According to real estate research firm Real Capital Analytics, the distressed commercial real estate in the U.S. amount to approximately 90 billion U.S. dollars.
