ABSTRACT
The article discusses the causes of the U.S. financial crisis and presents an analysis of the U.S. government's bailout plan of troubled financial institutions. The author states that U.S. policymakers, rather than bailing out large banks, should have allowed the standard bankruptcy process to operate. Other topics of discussion include government goals and policies aimed at increasing rates of home ownership in the U.S., the state of the U.S. economy at the end of September 2007, and the interventionist policies of U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.
