The article discusses the essential factors needed by boiler owners and plant engineers to understand boiler efficiency and the things to be done to save fuel in the typical boiler room. According to the author, there is a need to understand the boiler heat losses using typical packaged boiler operating data and boiler efficiency calculated according to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The article also explains that one most cost-effective fuel-saving strategy for a packaged boiler refers to specifying or retrofitting to a low excess air burner.
