ABSTRACT
The article reports that the price of European Union emissions allowances (EUA) under the EU Emissions Trading Scheme fell to an all-time low in the 2008-12 Phase II period in February 2009, before staging a modest rebound as buyers returned. The sharp decline in industrial carbon dioxide emissions resulting from the global economic slowdown is the reason for the decline in EUA prices in the seven months since an all-time high of €30.45 set in July 2008.
