ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the Literary Information and Communication System (LINCS) of the U.S. National Institute for Literacy. It notes that the discussion lists provided by the institute were designed to promote professional information sharing as well as provide opportunities for field-driven professional development. It adds that the institute was among the first to use the Internet in connecting the adult literacy community. It describes communities of practice (CoPs) as those who share a common interest and commitment.
