ABSTRACT
The article discusses the benefits of being multilingual, and effective ways to learn foreign languages. According to the article the most effective way to add to what is learned from class is to study abroad. Studying abroad allows a student to submerge him or herself, not only in the language he or she is studying, but in the culture. If study abroad is impossible, there are other ways to add to what is taught in class. The basic principle is to have as much to do with the foreign language as possible, and as little to do with English as is reasonable.
