ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the issue concerning food shortage experienced by people in Rome, Italy in 1942. According to Benito Mussolini, the country's Fascist dictator, the food shortage in the city is due to the feeding of starving, conquered Greece, where Italian wheat has been sent. Moreover, he supposes that "the whole of Europe is eating garbage" and predicts that if this goes on another year more people will die.
