ABSTRACT
The article reports that the purchase of BMI British Midland Airways by the German national airline Lufthansa is one of Lufthansa's key efforts to compete against British Airways. BMI Chairman Michael Bishop said that Lufthansa is expected to become the second-largest airline at Heathrow Airport. Lufthansa is also considering the acquisition of other airlines including Austrian Airlines.
