ABSTRACT
The article deals with the issue of sex education in the U.S. The guiding principle of sex education in a number of schools in the U.S. is abstinence before marriage. The government provided funds for sex education highlighting abstinence through the 1996 welfare-reform bill. Abstinence-only education prohibits the teaching of contraception. However, the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States complained against this kind of sex education. According to them, sexual innocence means sexual ignorance that results in teenage pregnancy or acquisition of sexually transmitted diseases.
