ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the participation of farm landowners in the Ninth District in the U.S. market for carbon offsets. It relates the amount in rangeland credits that Lisa Schmidt expects to realize from the carbon credits in her ranch in Montana. It describes how no-till farmers, timber operators and owners of recreational woodland are making money from sequestering carbon on their land. It states that some critics question whether carbon offsets will have a significant role in reducing global warming.
