ABSTRACT
The article reports that the Portuguese Parliament has voted in June 2008 to change the national language of Portugal to the type of Portuguese used in Brazil. According to Portuguese politicians, a standardized language taught in schools across Portugal, Brazil and other former Portuguese colonies, is necessary to strengthen the language's influence in the internet age.
