ABSTRACT
The article examines desktop applications that can be used to connect to Twitter, a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to send updates to the Twitter web site, via the Twitter web site, short message service (SMS), instant messaging, or a third-party application such as Twitterrific or Facebook. One of the most popular desktop applications is twhirl.org which is built on the AdobeAIR platform. Another similar application is the Firefox add-on Twitbin. Another is Tweet Scan where users can search by keyword, user, or both.
