ABSTRACT
The article presents a perspective on curriculum decisions that are based on actual student interest. It has been outlined that curricular decisions should be guided by the aim of thorough student mastery and achievement rather than by an effort merely to cover content. Any decision designed to benefit the students should and must incorporate student input. The zone of proximal interest recognizes that it is the teacher's job to move student interests toward richer, more challenging texts concepts and fields.
