ABSTRACT
The article investigates global efforts launched to harness solar energy. The sun is said to be the answer to the world's energy problems. As the Earth daily receives enough sunlight to meet the world's energy needs for four to five years, its significance as an energy source can be generated by properly harnessing it. Research efforts were launched focusing on the use of photovoltaic (PV) cells, which convert solar energy directly into electricity. However, engineers and environmentalists claimed that concentrating solar power (CSP) is cheaper and simpler that PV cells. INSETS: THE EUROPEAN SUPERGRID;FRINGE BENEFITS.
