ABSTRACT
This article discusses bullying in middle schools among students in the United States, Norway, Sweden, Japan, and Australia. Also evaluated are the psychological transitions that must occur before those students reach the high school level. The impact of the hormonal changes that occur during puberty is considered. Student suicides, which have resulted because of bullying, are discussed. The history of bullying is addressed along with an explanation of the differences between direct and indirect bullying.
