The article discusses the transformation of priorities of the International Reading Association (IRA) and the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) by the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the U.S. Such transformation is said to focus on preparing students for the new literacies. The Internet and ICTs are changing the definition of literacy. To become literate in today's worlds, students must become proficient in the new literacies of ICTs. Therefore, teacher educators have a responsibility across the curriculum in order to prepare students to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to use ICTs effectively for critical thinking.
