ABSTRACT
The article discusses the debate over the protection of rights of immigrants in the U.S. Two issues are raised, which include civic nationalism, which views national membership primarily in terms of values and political institutions, and ethnic nationalism, which views a nation as distinct people connected by race, religion, history and language. According to the article, thousands of immigrants are asserting that they want to help build the U.S., which they have come to know.
