ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the Medicaid generic drug reimbursement formula released by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The payment method will use the Average Manufacturer Price of drugs to establish a reimbursement formula. The old calculation used the Average Wholesaler Price. According to a study by the U.S. Government Accountability Office, retail pharmacies will be reimbursed, on average, 36% below acquisition cost for drugs under the rule.
