ABSTRACT
The article reports on the avidity of China to get hold of Tawang, situated in Arunachal Pradesh, India. Its basis lies on its claim that Tawang is the home of an important Buddhist monastery, the sixth Dalai Lama. Aside from this, China also considers Tawang to be bridge to get the hearts and minds of many Tibetans. An Indian expert, however, contends that people living in Tawang are not Tibetans but Monpas, an example of a district tribal community.
