The article examines the development of a vaccine for protection against the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). According to the author, a vaccine that induces strong T-cell mediated immune responses in the absence of broadly neutralizing antibodies may prove beneficial even if the HIV infection is not completely prevented. Soon after HIV was identified most vaccine developers focused on recombinant forms of the viral envelope, which is the target of neutralizing antibodies in HIV-infected persons. The article discusses T-Cell Vaccines.

Despite the worldwide efforts made in the field of HIV vaccine development, an efficient AIDS vaccine strategy is still vague.
