The article discusses the plan of wireless fidelity networks to look for practical ways to provide free access layers to consumers. MetroFi's vice president Adrian van Haaften says that they can monetize the free service they give through advertising. Toronto Hydro Telecom is about to end its free trial period and move to paid-for services. Industry observers say that advertisement-supported networks are yet to be proven, suggesting that tiered services might work better.
