ABSTRACT
This article reports on a new private venture which offers National Health Service (NHS) patients the ability to inspect their complete medical records in electronic form from any computer. Health eCard is the latest of several initiatives that aim to give patients access to their medical records. While most agree that patient access to their own records is a good idea there are concerns over practical matters. One of these is how the records should be accessible. There is concern about patient confidentiality through the use of cards that allow access. Questions remain on the cost of this database and if pricing the service will further a health service divide.
