ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the plan of finance minister Brian Cowan to eliminate the Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) and to introduce taxation of vehicles according to the amount of emissions they produce rather than the current VRT system in Ireland. It says that Cowan intends to alter the current rating system to relate it more closely to environmental policy objectives like the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
