The article reports on the prepayment speeds of student loan asset-backed securities (SLABS) in the U.S. Despite the healthy $44 billion of SLABS issuance that included government guarantees, issuers of SLABS paper were never able to consistently and uniformly provide investors or rating agencies with prepayment speeds. According to industry sources, consistent prepayment information could influence the pricing of SLABS.
