The article reports on the possible opportunity that can be gained by diesel-electric hybrid vehicles if the European Union decides to tax automobiles based on carbon dioxide emissions. If the reduction of carbon dioxide moves from voluntary to mandatory, automakers will need more than conventional and gasoline hybrid technologies. It discusses the pros and cons of such vehicles such as reduced fuel consumption. PSA/Peugeot-Citroen developed diesel-electric hybrid versions of the Peugeot 307 CC and Citroen C4 automobiles.
