The article focuses on the decision of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to extend by 45 days its Part D open-enrollment deadline to Medicare beneficiaries who have not received timely information about their benefits, co-payments, formularies and other enrollment information for 2007. Herb Kuhn, acting deputy administrator for the CMS, cited several factors behind the decision. Kuhn stressed that late enrollment was the biggest concern for the CMS as the deadline has been set on December 31, 2006.
