ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the United States' invasion of Iraq and its destabilization of the region. The civil war that has erupted in Iraq is said to be one of the world's biggest since 1945. The article addresses the possibility of the civil war spreading beyond Iraq's borders into the greater Middle East. Comparisons are drawn to World War I and to Africa's Great War, in which millions of people lost their lives between 1998 and 2000.
