ABSTRACT
The article offers information on academic freedom. The author noted that this kind of freedom is a myth. In the higher education setting, faculty members who dare to speak out on issues risk retaliation by others who are more powerful than them. Campus politics is noted to be the worst of all politics. Tenure and academic freedom were primarily developed as a way to provide scholars the freedom to search and express, without fear of retaliation, unconventional tenets that might challenge the current or preconceived social or scientific philosophies. They were designed to promote dialogue, discussion, and debate that could enhance human knowledge.
