ABSTRACT
This article describes methane as a new component of global warming. In Siberia, Russia, as the permafrost melts from global warming, huge amounts of methane are being released as plant and animal remains thaw and decompose underground. Methane is 20 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide, and scientists are just now factoring it into their climate-change models.
