ABSTRACT
The article discusses the sentencing of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, which excited little international attention, in contrast to his much-trumpeted role as villain and oppressor in the lead-up to the Iraq War. The quiet in the international community shows how badly the war has failed while the mixed reaction in Iraq reveals how much the war deepened sectarian divisions in the country.
