ABSTRACT
In this article the author discusses the fact that the rise of the celebrity chef and the increase in interest in fine cuisine does not answer the need to provide simple family meals on a daily basis. Elaborate restaurant dishes cannot be duplicated at home nor should they be, she argues. The author advocates a return to the use of basic recipes domestically and to the compulsory teaching of cooking secondary schools.
