ABSTRACT
The article discusses the contributions of Jimmy Hare to the field of photojournalism. Having a father who was a camera manufacturer in London, photojournalism came easily to Hare. His proposal to the editor of "Collier's Weekly" to sent him to Cuba when the battleship Maine blew up in Havana harbor in early 1898, was the start of a series of war assignments. When he died at the age of 89 in 1946, he was still recognized as the grand old man of American photojournalism.
