ABSTRACT
The article provides some insights into the economics of piracy and privateering in the United States. Piracy began with legalized plunder along the American coast. Privateering was a free, adventurours, exciting life where the privateer is entirely on his own. A pirateer is authorized to capture enemy ships loaded with contraband of war.
