ABSTRACT
This article explains that after rediscovering automotive form with the Discovery 3, Land Rover will turn its attention to cementing a profitable portfolio with its all-new Freelander. Built on an all-new platform, and due here mid-2007, the Freelander 2 will make a concerted push to shake off the build-quality and reliability issues that dogged its predecessor. A 118kW, 2.2-litre common-rail diesel will form the base engine, but a 171kW, 3.2-litre straight-six will also be available. While a full-time, Haldex on-demand 4WD system is standard, no dedicated low-range gearing is available.
