ABSTRACT
The article presents the views of Son Matthew, an environmental graduate of the University of North Carolina, on aquatic ecology. Matthew states that oxygen fuels the bacteria during the decomposition process, but as a result, the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water is depleted. Dead zones are areas where the level of dissolved oxygen in the water is too low to support the aquatic life that once thrived there.
