At the End of the Road--or at the Crossroads? Economic Reform in China

Solinger, Dorothy J.
March 1989
Harvard International Review;Spring89, Vol. 11 Issue 2, p16
The article discusses various issues related to economic reforms in China. Since the reforms began, foreign trade quadrupled in the first nine years, shooting up from US $20.6 billion in 1978 to US $82.7 billion in 1987. Another aspect of the reforms has been that the central government has reduced its old mandatory projections, plans dictated by the State Planning Commission in the Country.
