ABSTRACT
The article reports that U.S. Federal District Court Judge Shira Scheindlin may alter the secondary market for a range of debt instruments if she refuses to hear an appeal against a bankruptcy court ruling sought by some distressed debt players. The issue stems from litigation pitting Enron Corp. against banks that were senior secured lenders to the energy firm while structuring other deals that allegedly led to its demise. Enron emerged from bankruptcy in 2004 but is still settling claims with creditors.
